This is one of my favorite paintings. I took some reference photos about sundown at The Devil's Backbone one evening and came up with this landscape. My intention was just to leave it at that; a landscape that has broad appeal in the art market. But I kept looking at it over and over and wanting to figure something else to add a center of interest. I finally decided to put a cowboy and horse in the painting at the risk of getting things a little too "busy". But it made the painting and while I don't do that much western subject matter, this turned out really nice.
