History
Tallahassee Hunting Retriever Club (THRC), Inc. was founded in 1987 by a group of dog lovers. They ran their first American Kennel Club (AKC) Hunt Test on March 26 and 27, 1988 at Wildridge Plantation, located nine miles south of Thomasville, Georgia and eight miles north of Monticello, Florida on U.S. 19. The club moved its headquarters to Borderline Plantation in Thomasville, Georgia.
THRC hosts two hunt tests each year, normally held in March and October. These events are AKC licensed and THRC is a member of the Master National Retriever Club. The tests are open to all Retrievers (Chesapeake Bay, Curly Coated, Flat-Coated, Golden, Labrador, and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers), Irish Water Spaniels, and Standard Poodles.
Purpose
The purpose of the club is to promote and encourage the breeding of purebred AKC registered retrievers and to do all that is possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection by promoting sportsman-like competition at AKC Hunt Tests. Club members have designated training grounds at Borderline Plantation. Members gather at the “Training Ponds” on weekday afternoons and on Saturdays and Sundays to work their dogs and enjoy the camaraderie of other dog enthusiasts.
